The national conference for Shriners International will be coming to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 2017. The event will be held at the Ocean Center, Daytona Beach’s convention center which underwent an $82 million expansion 2009. This conference was a major victory in 2012 for Ted Doran, the chair of the Halifax Area Advertising Authority (HAAA). During his time as chair of the HAAA, Ted Doran sought to increase tourism in the area by promoting the use of the Ocean Center as a venue for conventions.
The conference will be overseen by the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the organization in charge of the Ocean Center. The Shriners conference will bring an estimated $8 million into the local economy, along with over 15,000 people to the Daytona Beach area.
