BGC clubs are located in eight communities within the counties of Volusia and Flagler. The purpose of the clubs is to provide a safe environment for youth to gather when school is not in session, while teaching leadership skills and self-respect.

Serving 1,600 area youth, the organization offers programs in education, the environment, alcohol and drug prevention, gang prevention, pregnancy prevention, leadership development, and athletics, among others.

Last year, BGC of Volusia and Flagler Counties saw 100 percent of club members participate in the educational reinforcement program, Project Learn, and in the SMART Moves prevention program. The SMART Moves program teaches self-esteem and resistance to peer pressure to engage in sexual activity, gangs, alcohol, and marijuana. There were no club members arrested and no pregnancies reported in 2015.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida aims to create programs that help to support at-risk youth with local clubs throughout region. Each year, the organization hosts a fundraising event called Celebrate the Children, which involves a dinner with entertainment and ends with an auction that raises funds for the organization. This year, the event received a $100,000 grant from the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Walt Disney Company has been a supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida for over 50 years, and two of the organization’s clubhouses, in Pine Hills and Osceola County, were built with funds donated by Disney. This year’s grant money will be used to enhance arts and technology programs, especially at the Pine Hills and Osceola County clubhouses.
